AUF Student Fund - Ukraine

UvA students in need of financial help due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine can turn to an emergency fund. The fund is made up of a crowdfunding campaign and a substantial contribution from the Amsterdam University Fund (AUF). A contribution from the fund can be seen as a gift. Students do not have to pay back this amount.

We feel a responsibility to all of our students. Therefore, in addition to students from Ukraine, also students from Russia and Belarus can apply for the fund. They are part of our academic community and are not held personally responsible for the Russian invasion. The Minister of Education, Culture and Science has also explicitly asked universities to do this.

How to submit your application?

If you need a contribution, you first make an appointment with a student counsellor. After this meeting you determine together what else is needed in order to submit your application.

Applications can be submitted during academic year 2021-2022 under the following conditions:

  • You are registered as a student at the UvA.
  • You have Ukrainian, Russian or Belarusian nationality.
  • Existing schemes do not apply or apply insufficiently to your situation.
  • There is demonstrable acute financial need, related to the invasion of Ukraine.

Application checklist

Applications should include:

  • a detailed budget;
  • a letter explaining the situation (1 A4);
  • your CV.

After a positive advice from the student counsellor, you can submit your application with all the necessary information. The form is in English, but files can be uploaded in Dutch.
