This summer, the world is looking at Amsterdam. WorldPride starts on July 25. It's at exactly this moment that the UvA Fund launches the UvA Queer Fund.

With the UvA Queer Fund, we create room for initiatives that strengthen, connect, and give visibility to queer students, staff, and researchers.

Why a UvA Queer Fund?

The UvA is a place where people with different backgrounds, identities, and perspectives come together. That diversity makes our university stronger. At the same time, being able to be yourself is not a given for everyone. That's precisely why continued commitment is needed.

"A university should be a place where everyone feels free to be themselves. That requires not just words, but action." Vinod Subramaniam, Chair of the Executive Board of the UvA

What does the UvA Queer Fund stand for?

  • Educational projects that make inclusion visible and self-evident.
  • Research that provides new insights into queer issues and contributes to both scientific knowledge and social change.
  • Initiatives that contribute to a more inclusive society and strengthen the connection between the UvA and the world around us.

For example: research into how social media can have both a positive and negative influence on the mental health of LGBTQIA+ youth — a group that has so far been underrepresented in research on digital health and wellbeing.

"Around the world, we see that pressure on LGBTQIA+ rights rarely stands on its own. That's exactly why investing in queer research, education, and community is an investment in academic freedom as well as in the democratic resilience of our society." Lou Errens, UvA Impact Developer, Faculty of Law

Our goal is to raise €25,000 before September 8, 2026, for queer-related initiatives within the UvA. One gift can make a new initiative possible, help advance research, and ensure that everyone feels free to be themselves.

"A strong community emerges when people can meet each other, feel seen, and be themselves. The UvA Queer Fund helps create that space." Kevin Koenrades, UvA Pride

Donate today and give queer initiatives at the UvA the room to grow.
