The Amsterdam University Fund is an independent foundation and manages 92 Named Funds.

Through a Named Fund, individuals or companies establish a long-term commitment to science. The initiator determines the name, purpose and conditions of the fund in consultation with the Amsterdam University Fund.

The oldest Named Fund is the Wilmerink–Van Beeck Vollenhoven Fund. The Van Beeck Vollenhoven Fund was created from the estate of Dr H. van Beeck Vollenhoven. It was established in 1868 and transferred to the University Fund by the City of Amsterdam in 1996. In 2002, it was merged with the Wilmerink Fund.
